![]() If Forever tries, not entirely successfully, to toe the line between the relative darkness of the Burton films and the humor of the 1966 series, Batman & Robin veers fully into camp territory. Cue Clooney, an actor just making the jump from TV to Hollywood superstardom. Schumacher and Kilmer tended to offer conflicting explanations over the years (Kilmer had a scheduling conflict with The Saint, Schumacher fired him in light of unprofessional behavior on the Batman Forever set, etc.), but it's clear at least that everyone was happier with the prospect of Kilmer moving on. With Batman & Robin, director Joel Schumacher again faced the unenviable task of casting a brand new Dark Knight after Val Kilmer dropped out. Day 6 - Ben Affleck's Superhuman Dark Knight.Day 5 - Christian Bale and the Burden of Heroism.Day 4 - George Clooney Makes Batman Likable.Day 3 - Is Val Kilmer the Funniest Batman?.Day 2 - Michael Keaton as the Haunted Dark Knight.Day 1 - Adam West: The Bright Knight or a Sad Clown?.More From The Quest for the Perfect Batman Actor In Day 4 of our ongoing look back at the many live-action Batman actors, we explore why Clooney succeeded in bringing a little bit of light into Batman's dreary world. In fact, he's actually a pretty great Bruce Wayne, all things considered. But for all that Batman & Robin gets wrong about the Dynamic Duo, little of the blame rests with Clooney himself. Frankly, we should all hope no others rise up to challenge its claim to that particular throne. Batman Forever and Batman & Robin haven't aged particularly well, so if a third Batman were to return, it's more likely Bale or Pattinson would appear over Kilmer or Clooney. No one is going to argue Batman & Robin isn't one of the weakest DC movies to date. With the long-standing popularity of Keaton's Batman and the current wave of appreciation for Affleck's Batman thanks to the Snyder Cut, these two versions of the Caped Crusader were the obvious choices for The Flash. ![]() However, many wouldn't mind if Clooney wasn't in The Flash. If true, it would be disappointing not to see Affleck and Keaton together in the same scene. The two versions of Batman could be seen together if shots are combined in post-production, but based on Affleck's comment, the two actors may not even share the screen together. It's unknown how big of a role Affleck will have in The Flash, but it's believed The Flash could kill off Affleck's Batman. This could give his version of the character a definitive ending, but Affleck not interacting with Keaton on set could mean they don't share any scenes together or team up to help The Flash. While it looks like Clooney won't be appearing in The Flash, his comment about Keaton could possibly have revealed story details. He claims Clooney may secretly be in the film if he's heavily guarded, explaining that he never saw Keaton while filming his scenes. Affleck's full quote can be read below: About halfway through the interview, The Flash was brought up, with Affleck saying he doesn't believe Clooney is in the movie. With two actors returning as Bruce Wayne in The Flash, many have wondered if Kilmer, Clooney, Bale, or possibly even Pattinson could appear in the DC movie as well. Zack Snyder's Justice League was thought to be Affleck's final outing as Batman, but it was announced in August 2020 that he too would be playing Batman in The Flash. After 30 years, the actor is returning to the DC universe and is set to appear in The Flash next year. Keaton is considered a fan-favorite Batman, having appeared in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman and its sequel, Batman Returns, in 1992.
